Emi Uchida

Emi Uchida, worked first in the Japanese fashion industry before entirely dedicating herself to her artistic carrer. Her style is based on the line, simple and pure. However, once that line is multiplied ans aggregated, it generates a complex structure of imbricated spaces: the line has become a boundary.

Uchida names it "trace". A trace in space, but also a trace in time. "Time and space expand constantly, without limit, without frontier. Every single trace I reach only opens a new space beyond, and I loose myself (thus I exist) among those colours and those lines."

"Like in a dream, time has no continuum. In a dream, there is no before, no after, it is a floating dimension made from vivid or indistinct moments. This dimension expands in every direction, like a network filling up an infinite space."

Traces are not contained by the frame's borders, they continue their expansion in the canvas' depth. This reality however only reveal itself under special circumstances.
