Takamasu Masako

Updated: May 4, 2020

Masako Takamasu is an artist who seeks new possibilities within the frames of Japanese graceful beauty and abstract painting. Born in Hirado, Japan, an island located on the west side of Kyushu, she grew up in a big family. In those days, drawing and painting were the only time when she could really be her true self. The natural scenery around her was always magnificent and limitless, and has influenced her deeply. It now constitutes the core of her painting style. Masako started to produce large size paintings since her junior high school days and was endowed with an opportunity to study colours at a high school in the United States. She continued to explore in the field of fine arts at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco for 5 years. That experience had a great impact on her artistic process. During that period, she created large abstract paintings, up to fifteen feet wide. A tragic incident in her life forced her to go back to Japan after 5 years in the USA, and all her abstract production has since remained in storage, never shown to the public.

Struggling through all those setbacks, but yet looking forward the grasp the meaning of her existence, she continued to study the Japanese graceful beauty and abstract painting and graduated from Kyoto University of Art and Design.

Masako Takamasuは日本の奥ゆかしい美と抽象画の造形性に可能性を見出し絵画制作を続けているアーティストである。
